Episode 10: Balm

Postby Jeremy » Wed Nov 04, 2009 9:07 pm

Agent Stahl (Ally Walker) takes notice at the handsome profits SAMCRO is reaping from the repo business. Meanwhile, the Jax- Clay standoff forces Gemma to make a difficult decision.
I don't know ... who Clay's hitting, except for you. I'm sure he's hitting you, cause you're his wife and all.

That was a really powerful episode specially at the end.

I was suprised that the Chibbs turned the Irish over to the ATF but from what that man said about Chibbs daughter, i think it was a good idea.

I knew exactly what was gonna happen when Tig ate that mushroom, his ghost of killing Donna was gonna come back to him. I think when the time comes that Opie knows the truth about Donna, Opie will most likely forgive Tig for what he had done. I know Tig is haunted by it ever since that night. Clay on the other hand, I can see Opie putting a bullet through his head.

Gemma finally telling them what happened that night was a good thing as bad as it sounded, it's going to bring Clay and Jax together and from what the next episode, they put the hatred aside and work together.

Sucks to see Jax going to Nomad but I don't think that transfer will be official(even if they vote on it) with finding out what happened to Gemma.

lol at halfsack on that mushroom.

That was an epic score on finding that indian reservation that makes the bullets. Being on the indian reservation, the FBI and such cant touch them(i think, not positive on the laws)

Gemma believed that telling Clay and Jax about her rape would divide them. It's interesting how now that they are divided how that knowledge can go to reuniting them. I think it remains to be seen how far that will go. It doesn't bring Donna back, or heal those wounds. This may be a temporary truce.

One thing seems to be for sure, Clay didn't kill John Teller.

This episode nearly pissed me off. This entire season has been buildup of the Clay/Jax/Donna thing and the end of tonight changed everything. In the next episode, it looks like Jax has his VP and RO patches back on. THis basically undoes everything this season has been building up towards.. and now this Donna thing is gonna drag out through ANOTHER season.

Chibs is by far my favorite character on the show, and it pains me to see him working with the Feds but it seems to me like he had zero other options.

I really hope Piney didn't kill himself. I kind of think he's going to try to murder Clay and die in the process.

Even though this episode started a little slow for me The Ending was GREAT. Jax going Nomad and Gemma finally telling about the rape, I cannot wait until next week to see how Clay and Jax handle the retaliation against Zobel. Fantastic Episode! ★★★★★ 5 stars from me :)

EPIC!!
When Jax put blade to cut the look on Chibbs face was like Jax was cuttings out his heart. This by far is the best episode.
Mr Sutter, If you in fact do read these posts I commend you Sir. You know your subject matter....

Tonight was yet another example of the stuff you won't see on network TV. I'm not talking about the cussing or the subject matter, but the writing. Most of the writers these days fellating the money hungry fat cats would never even attempt something like this, even if they could.

The episode started off very slow, and it seemed kind of like a filler episode in a way, but you could see it was actually just tying some things together. It was showing Piney's take on things, Clay's ability to lead, and the clubs loyalty to Jax, so much so that they voted him out, simply because he wished for it. Not one of those guys looked happy to vote yay.

Say what you want about Clay, I know right now we're all angry with him, but he does have strong points, and that's evident tonight. He is a greedy bastard, but that greed helps him find new opportunities and pursue them, like the ammo reloaders. And one thing is undeniable, Clay is an excellent negotiator. One of the things Jax has picked up well is that ability to bargain and swing deals for the club. To intimidate and maintain a "command presence" is something Clay has always been skilled at.

The only thing I didn't like was how everyone in the club was basically begging Jax to stay in and he ignored it. From Piney to Juice they were trying to let him know how much he meant to them and the club, and how he was breaking a family tie. And he so easily turned his back on them, I think that's going to cause distrust in the future. I think Piney should have convinced him, or Juice just by what they said. But I guess a true leader thinks with his own mind. I just don't think he was really thinking things through.

The ending was epic. One of the most emotionally gripping scenes in television history, no exaggeration. Katey's performance was without a doubt phenomenal in this scene. Both Perlman and Hunnam where also outstanding, you could see the anger brewing in their faces. Great acting makes you believe, and they knocked it out of the park tonight. Even Maggie's performance although small was extremely convincing. Most of her role was facial expressions, but she nailed it.

Our group watching tonight was absolutely silent when that happened. I didn't see it coming at all, it was a complete shock to me. As soon as she told Tara to come sit down I was floored. Then throughout that whole thing, we couldn't talk, we couldn't take our eyes off the TV. And it was like watching someone you care about pouring their heart out in pain. These people are turning into our family.

Back to the characters, I can see why Gemma did this. At first she knew telling them would hurt them, and she didn't want them to win. She also thought it would tear them further apart. But after seeing Jax go nomad, she knew it was time to act. If she didn't she would see her son die, and her Husband and extended family fall apart. So she took a risk and told them about this, to bond them together for a mutual clause. I think based on what we know about this character, this is exactly what she would do. She is the queen of the club, and the true uniter and strength of the club, whether anyone wants to admit it or not. She did what she had to do.

Great episode, unforgettable TV for sure.

I was blown away by last nights 90 minute special... At first it was slow going but never the less INTENSE! I have been waiting for 9 weeks to hear Gemma's secret be revealed and FINALLY! I can't believe how brilliant Kurt Sutter's writing is. He reveals the rape at a time the club needs something to reunite them. Wow. Job well done. Katey Sagal deserves an Emmy nod and I am hoping she gets it. As does Sutter for his writing. I hope they are recognized this year...

As for Chibbs, I am not sure if what he did is considered being a rat. It may end up hurting the club in the long run but the IRA somewhat turned on them to begin with. I think he made the right choice but of course we will soon find out.

I think Opie's going to find out soon, just as things seem to be looking up for Clay & Jax. In next weeks preview, it seem's Opie is on top of the club's roof looking down on everyone. And there is also a scene where someone is beating the crap out of Tig. Can't wait 6 more days to find out!

Although I realize this is a drama tv show and not everything will have it's perfect ending, I am going to be really bugged if this hospital ordeal comes between Tara and Jax. I just love their relationship and how it brings this hardcore (almost thug) into a sensitive father and boyfriend role. He becomes domesticated and that is almost funny to see. This is testing Tara's loyalty to the club and to Jax. She comes off as the "off the book" type of girl but we see otherwise in her treatment of Chibbs and the way she told Stahl off. I am loving this bad ass side to Tara. I really hope she sticks around.

Where do you all think this Tig thing is headed? It's not looking promising!

Sucks to see Jax going to Nomad but I don't think that transfer will be official(even if they vote on it) with finding out what happened to Gemma.

Jax picked up his patches again as he left the house. There is no doubt he's not going Nomad now.

He reveals the rape at a time the club needs something to reunite them.

Exactly. This was well thought out, well designed, and well processed. I could see it coming at the end of Potlach, she'd had her fill of things, but it's not something that was just going to ocme out. Now, we've only got 3 episodes to deal with a number of things:
#1: Gemma's rape
#2: Donna's murder
#3: Jax/Clay and their tension/relationship
I think it will take FAR more than 3 episodes to do this, so we will see some spillage into season 3. I can only hope that they leave season 2 as they did with season 1. You just can NOT top the way that was left.

As for Chibbs, I am not sure if what he did is considered being a rat.

That is exactly what he did, he gave information to the cops. For his own protection, his family's protetion, whatever reason, he is now a rat. Will the club forgive him? Undoubtedly, as he is a decent member, and what he did didn't HURT them anyways (they were done with the Irish), though there will always be that bit of doubt in what goes on around him.

Whatever the purpose, this episode at least started the process needed to get the club back together as one, with one respective head, and one respective VP. This couldn't have come at a better time!
