Tonight was yet another example of the stuff you won't see on network TV. I'm not talking about the cussing or the subject matter, but the writing. Most of the writers these days fellating the money hungry fat cats would never even attempt something like this, even if they could.
The episode started off very slow, and it seemed kind of like a filler episode in a way, but you could see it was actually just tying some things together. It was showing Piney's take on things, Clay's ability to lead, and the clubs loyalty to Jax, so much so that they voted him out, simply because he wished for it. Not one of those guys looked happy to vote yay.
Say what you want about Clay, I know right now we're all angry with him, but he does have strong points, and that's evident tonight. He is a greedy bastard, but that greed helps him find new opportunities and pursue them, like the ammo reloaders. And one thing is undeniable, Clay is an excellent negotiator. One of the things Jax has picked up well is that ability to bargain and swing deals for the club. To intimidate and maintain a "command presence" is something Clay has always been skilled at.
The only thing I didn't like was how everyone in the club was basically begging Jax to stay in and he ignored it. From Piney to Juice they were trying to let him know how much he meant to them and the club, and how he was breaking a family tie. And he so easily turned his back on them, I think that's going to cause distrust in the future. I think Piney should have convinced him, or Juice just by what they said. But I guess a true leader thinks with his own mind. I just don't think he was really thinking things through.
The ending was epic. One of the most emotionally gripping scenes in television history, no exaggeration. Katey's performance was without a doubt phenomenal in this scene. Both Perlman and Hunnam where also outstanding, you could see the anger brewing in their faces. Great acting makes you believe, and they knocked it out of the park tonight. Even Maggie's performance although small was extremely convincing. Most of her role was facial expressions, but she nailed it.
Our group watching tonight was absolutely silent when that happened. I didn't see it coming at all, it was a complete shock to me. As soon as she told Tara to come sit down I was floored. Then throughout that whole thing, we couldn't talk, we couldn't take our eyes off the TV. And it was like watching someone you care about pouring their heart out in pain. These people are turning into our family.
Back to the characters, I can see why Gemma did this. At first she knew telling them would hurt them, and she didn't want them to win. She also thought it would tear them further apart. But after seeing Jax go nomad, she knew it was time to act. If she didn't she would see her son die, and her Husband and extended family fall apart. So she took a risk and told them about this, to bond them together for a mutual clause. I think based on what we know about this character, this is exactly what she would do. She is the queen of the club, and the true uniter and strength of the club, whether anyone wants to admit it or not. She did what she had to do.
Great episode, unforgettable TV for sure.
I don't know ... who Clay's hitting, except for you. I'm sure he's hitting you, cause you're his wife and all.
