fao - Slider

The idea that Chibbs could have been in the British Army and the IRA isn't as ridiculous as you might think.
The British Army selected hundreds of men to infitlrate the IRA, PIRA and RIRA.
British Soldiers born in the North of Ireland were often used to try to infiltrate these organisations. Dozens were successful.
It's not unimaginable that some of them found themselves sympathsing with the IRA's aims and " going native " so to speak.

You could also look at the case of Alfredo Scappaticci ( code name steak-knife )

Add that to stories of British Collusion with Loyalist paramiliatries to aid the murder of nationalists and there are stories from here that rival anything Kurt could come up with.

This used to be a very fuqt up little place.

Nice background info -- good looking out! Wonder if we'll get backstories on all the SOA cast at some point -- would be neat down the road to see where everybody came from to get to Charming.

BigIrish

Thanks for the info. I'd read a couple of books that mentioned the British Army & the IRA, but they were fiction and I was't sure exactly how much to believe. Looks like I still have a lot more to learn.

After talking about Chibs with a few of our Crew we came up with the theory that Chibs went 'undercover' in the IRA (rather than 'converting') but then we took that further - what if his undercover work lead him to the SOA, and he's still working undercover ?

Admittedly, it's not a theory we were taking seriously, but it did make us think for a minute or two. How about this:

British soldier Chibs infiltrates the IRA, then through them learns of a bunch of gun running bikers and moves on to 'investigate' them. In the process he starts to go native and enjoy the SOA lifestyle. Perhaps he's siding with Jax because that will get SOA out of the gun running business, therefore removing them as targets for his infiltration.

Maybe that's another reason he was ready to deal with Stahl - it gets the IRA away from SAMCRO and maybe Chibs can then just live his life as a member of SOA.

Hahaha, just thoughts we were throwing around last weekend. I can't actually believe that would ever be the case though.

cheers

That guy, Jimmy, did mention that the Belfast Chapter had been the IRA's right hand for years, so there's natural progression there.....
Love it Slider - genius segue.

Great take, Slider. Makes total sense that Chibs would protect the SOA instead of the IRA ... hope that's the direction they're headed -- would realy like to see Chibs stay around for a loooong time..

I've been playin' catch up on a bunch of shows I DVR'd. This is going to be a great way to end the season with me holding on to the edge of my seat! It's good to see them working things out for the good of the club but you can still cut the tension with a knife. This will be interesting to see how they handle things with the drug dealers, gun dealers, ATF....damn they got everybody in their shit!

Guess not ... from Sutter's Twitter page (below) ... I'm thinking he's probably not a big Lost fan, lol. It's all good.
